What “no deposit” actually means
With a standard rental, the operator pre-authorises a deposit on your card — money you don't lose, but that's held until the car comes back. No-deposit cars remove that step: nothing is blocked, so you're not carrying a frozen sum around for your whole trip.
It usually works because the car comes with a higher level of included protection, so the operator doesn't need the security hold. You still can't drive off damage-free obligations — you're responsible for the car — but there's no lump sum tied up on your card.
